We never request background location. Location is accessed only while you are actively using the app.

2. Information We Collect

PlantMap collects only the information needed to provide its features. We do not collect names, email addresses, payment information, or account credentials.

3. How We Use Your Information

4. Third-Party Services

Plant Identification

PlantNet API โ€” Photos and your approximate location may be transmitted to PlantNet servers to identify plant species. See plantnet.org/privacy.

AI Inference

Groq (LLM) โ€” The identified plant species name is transmitted to Groq's API to generate care information. No photos or precise location data are sent to Groq. See groq.com/privacy.

Cloud Sync

Apple iCloud โ€” If you enable iCloud sync, your gardens and plants are stored in your personal iCloud account. All data is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We cannot access your iCloud data.

We do not use any analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash-reporting services that collect personally identifiable information.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your plant and garden data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If iCloud sync is enabled, it is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit infrastructure.

Any API keys you enter are stored in your device's Keychain using iOS-standard AES encryption. They are never transmitted to our servers or logged.

Photos taken or imported within the app are stored in the app's private container and, if iCloud is enabled, your iCloud account. They are not uploaded to PlantMap servers.

PlantMap does not operate servers that store your personal plant data. Your data lives on your device and your iCloud account.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties. Data is shared with third-party services only as described in Section 4, and only when you actively use a feature that requires it.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of users or the public, provided we are legally permitted to notify you.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data remains on your device and iCloud account until you delete it. You can:

We do not retain any copies of your data on PlantMap servers because we do not receive it in the first place.

8. Tracking & Advertising

PlantMap does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use advertising networks, behavioral profiling, or cross-app tracking of any kind. The App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission is not requested because it is not needed.

The app contains no third-party advertising SDKs and does not display ads.

9. Children's Privacy

PlantMap is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app in a way that collected personal information, please contact us at the address below and we will take prompt steps to address it.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Because PlantMap stores your data on your own device and iCloud account, you exercise most privacy rights directly through the app or through Apple's settings. For any other requests:

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. PlantMap does not sell personal information.

EEA / UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR): You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Our lawful basis for processing is legitimate interest in providing the features you explicitly use. Contact us at the address below to exercise these rights.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will also display an in-app notice. Continued use of PlantMap after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
